Supported Files, 3D Formats & CAD Guidelines
Technical specifications for open STL files, preparation margins, occlusal offsets, and cement space presets.
1. Supported 3D Formats
WorkDent supports standard binary STL, ASCII STL, color-textured PLY (ideal for margin definition and prep visualization), OBJ with material textures, DICOM volume CT sets, and proprietary project files (.dentalProject, .3oxz).
2. Coordinate Systems & Articulation
Always ensure the prep arch and antagonist arch are exported in the same global coordinates so the digital articulation aligns seamlessly in exocad or 3Shape without manual orientation.
3. Minimum Thickness Parameters by Material
Monolithic High-Translucency Zirconia: minimum 0.6mm (occlusal) / 0.5mm (axial). IPS e.max CAD Lithium Disilicate: minimum 1.0mm (occlusal) / 0.8mm (axial). PMMA Long-Term Temp: minimum 1.0mm.
4. Default Cement Gap Presets
Standard crown cement gap defaults to 0.030mm (30 microns) starting 0.5mm above the margin line. Occlusal extra cement gap is set to 0.040mm to ensure effortless passive seating during cementation.
