Getting Started as a Dentist or Clinic
Complete guide to exporting intraoral scans, selecting restorative materials, and ordering precision CAD designs on WorkDent.
1. Exporting Intraoral Scan Files
WorkDent accepts open STL, PLY, and OBJ scan files directly exported from any modern intraoral scanner including 3Shape TRIOS, Medit i500/i700, iTero Element, Dentsply Sirona Primescan, and Carestream Dental. Ensure you export both the upper arch, lower arch, and buccal bite registration scan.
2. Setting Prescription Parameters
When posting a case, specify the FDI or Universal tooth notation, restoration type (Full-contour Crown, Coping, 3-Unit Bridge, Inlay/Onlay, Custom Implant Abutment), target material (e.g., Katana Multilayered Zirconia, IPS e.max CAD), and desired occlusal relief (-0.05mm to +0.05mm).
3. 3D Inspection & Margin Review
Once your assigned vetted designer uploads the construction file, you can inspect the design directly in your browser. Check margin seal, proximal contact tension, and occlusal clearance with color heatmaps before releasing payment.
4. Mill-Ready Download & Escrow Approval
If the design meets clinical standards, approve the milestone. The funds in escrow are released to the designer, and you receive the production-ready CAM STL files ready for your in-house mill or external production center.
